When Is the Best Time to Have Your Roof Fixed?

It’s raining outside and lo and behold you discover that the brutal hours of heat and sunlight have created damage that’s now resulted in a leak in your roof. Now what should you do? Should you call for a repair right away? Should you wait until the weather improves? Should you put off the repair till the weather cools off? These are common questions people have, and some cause people to delay calling for a repair longer than they can really afford to do so.

Roofers Work in Nearly Any Weather

One of the things that surprises people is the fact that roofers work all year long, so there is no “off-season” when we aren’t accepting jobs. However, there are certainly “slower” seasons where many people simply don’t want to worry about having their roof repaired, and these seasons are generally the best time for major services like serious repairs or total replacements.

The busiest time of the year for roofing companies in the Arizona desert is typically during the months of late spring through early summer. Because Arizona typically gets rain from summer monsoons throughout the months of July and August, it’s usually best to avoid these months for serious repairs since rainstorms could appear with little warning. Therefore, the months of April through June tend to be the best for getting serious roofing services done.

However, these months are when roofing companies are at their busiest, and sometimes finding a repair appointment can be tougher around these times. When demand is high, time is at a premium, and getting a service scheduled may involve taking whatever’s available on your roofing company’s calendar. Instead, a little-known secret is that you can still have your roof repaired during these “off” seasons as well. While the weather may not be as friendly, roofers can still work through it and the demand for services is generally much lower. That means you’re likely to get a faster repair when you call.

However, these months are when the weather tends to be particularly harsh, including the hottest days of Arizona summers to the cold weather of desert winters. Roofers can and still do work in both of these conditions (barring extreme cold, but temperatures that low are rare in the Phoenix and Tucson areas). The only reason people tend to shy away from them is because having work done on your roof could eliminate insulation that keeps you comfortable in your home.

What About Urgent Fixes?

Here’s a practical bit of advice for you: the best time to get a serious roof service like a repair or replacement is when you don’t need it urgently. When you have time to consider your options and make an educated decision, you’re going to be the happiest with the results. However, this isn’t always possible. If you have a serious problem that you need right away, you need to call for help immediately.

Whenever you have a roofing problem that’s threatening serious damage to your home, getting help as possible is extremely important for preserving your home and preventing other types of damage which water can cause. A small water leak can wreak all kinds of havoc on your home during even small rainstorms, including ruining drywall, causing wood rot, and even leading to mold and mildew growth if it’s not taken care of.

While you may not be able to get a roofer to your home right away, they’ll at least be able to put you on the schedule and come to you as soon as possible. In many cases, most roofers can send a technician to you as soon as the very next day!
