What Does Your Roof Warranty Cover?

Today’s smart consumers would never make a big purchase without some form of a guarantee that they’re going to be covered in the event something happens that’s outside of their control. For example, most modern new cars are covered by a warranty that’s usually at least three years or roughly 36,000 miles, give or take, with some vehicles even going as long as 10 years or 100,000 miles! This is designed to give the consumer peace of mind that their investment isn’t going to saddle them with repair bills if it winds up being defective or fails to live up to quality standards.

Your roof is much the same way. A new roof will include a warranty which protects the purchaser from unforeseen issues by guaranteeing the problem will be fixed at no cost to them. But what exactly does your roof cover? What are some of the terms behind it that you need to know about? In this blog, we’ll go over some of the common factors in a roof warranty and explain what they cover in greater detail.

Manufacturer’s Warranties

A manufacturer’s warranty is essentially a guarantee from the manufacturer of the materials being used, saying that they’ll cover any defects or issues that have to do with the material itself. For example, if a tile on your roof inexplicably cracks and creates a huge leak in your roof just a month or so after being installed, then there was probably a defect in the tile itself that caused the damage. At this point, the manufacturer pays for the cost of having the damage fixed and the new tile replaced under your new roof warranty.

Most new roof warranties will last around 10 years or so, with othes going longer depending on the material you buy. However, here at Lyons Roofing, we’re proud to be a preferred contractor or certified installer for a variety of different roofing materials. That means we’ve consistently displayed a mastery of the products these manufacturers put on the market, including how to install them properly. Certain manufacturers will actually extend the warranty over the roofs of customers who have their roofs installed by certified installers, giving you even more protection and peace of mind.

Here at Lyons Roofing, we’re proud to partner with a variety of roofing manufacturers, including:

What Isn’t Covered?

Your roof warranty is not an insurance policy. While it does protect you from damage as a result of defects or improper installation, it doesn’t protect from things like damage due to fire, hail, falling tree branches, or other acts of nature which are entirely unpredictable. Your roof warranty also doesn’t cover things like mounting solar or satellite dishes. If your installation company accidentally damages your roof, then you’re responsible for it. This is why it’s important to choose a reputable installer—in many cases the best ones will offer their own guarantees and fix any of their mistakes that do cause damage to your roof!.
